So it was pretty cold last week...

I was wondering how the animals survived? Because I know I didn't want to spend any time outside in -20 degree weather! Native CHAT started the coldest week of the year.

If the cold kept you from coming to see what we're all about.  No worries!  The door is still open.  This Tuesday you can come learn what it means to be a CHAT peer educator.  Hopefully it is a good fit for you.  I know you'll like what we have to offer: dinner, gift cards, cell phone, cell phone minutes, field trips, and knowledge to stay safe.  Ahem, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.  Power up Minneapolis.

Preparing for Session 1

Native CHAT is a youth prevention program with the Indigenous Peoples Task Force.  CHAT is a grant funded by the Office of Minority Health.  There are several CHAT programs across the United States working with varied age groups however we are all working toward Curbing HIV/AIDS Transmission (CHAT).  CHAT is a unique program in that it is tapping into the popularity and availability of social networking, youtube, blogs, twitter, and other forms of technology for peer educating the Native community on HIV transmission, prevention, and reducing the stigma.

Tonight is our first session.  Since December the Native CHAT staff have been gathering information, revamping our style,  recruiting peer educators, fine tuning our image, learning about technology, and brushing up on HIV/AIDS facts.  Lots of planning and energy for the next 32 sessions with a new group of 7th-12th graders.  Every group has been different and I am excited to see who comes through the door at 5pm.
